INTRODUCTION
=============================================================
Character oriented astrology
In this chart interpretation, you will notice the terms 'character'
and 'soul forces'. Characters are subpersonalities, that is, various
facets of the psyche. In a person, there may be several characters
and soul forces which are not yet consciously recognised, but have
potential and may only surface with time - or perhaps remain buried
in the depths of the psyche.
The Clairvision approach sees the astrological chart as a map of a
person's characters. You should not be surprised if some of the
characters described in the interpretation are not apparent. They
may have been conspicuous only in one earlier phase of the person's
life, or they may not have blossomed yet - or perhaps they
correspond to deep unconscious material. Because one of the most
exciting sides of astrological interpretation is to reveal hidden
soul forces and potential, the characters described in the
interpretation that the person cannot recognise in themselves may
actually be the most important.
Nothing is fixed
An important aspect of the Clairvision approach to astrology is that
it considers that nothing is fixed. A chart has many facets, and
free will can determine which qualities will be developed, and which
avenues of life will be trodden.
This interpretation is valid both for tropical and sidereal charts
As you will notice, this interpretation emphasises planetary aspects
the most, and disregards the position of the planets in signs. The
astrologers of the Clairvision School are in favour of a sidereal
system of astrology (taking into account the precession of the
equinoxes) because this matches the astronomical reality of the
constellations more closely. In a sidereal chart, all the positions
of the planets in signs differ by more than 23 degrees from those in
a tropical chart. However, planetary aspects and the positions of
planets in houses remain the same. So the interpretation we are
offering you here remains the same for tropical and sidereal charts.

MAJOR ASPECTS
=============================================================
Note: the aspects are presented in a carefully selected order which
reflects their importance in this chart.
Conjunction Venus-Mars, orb = 04°45'
Key words: The encounter of the 2 planets of desire, passion, libido
and creativity.
The Venus-Mars combination can manifest in quite different
characters. A person may well manifest one of these characters at
one period of their life, then another character of opposite
polarity in another period - all this even if they do not do any
work on themselves.
Characters related to the Mars-Venus association of planetary
forces:
*The passionate character:
Mars and Venus are the two planets of polarity, attraction and
passion.
When they meet in the form of an aspect, they reinforce each other.
The fire of Mars permeates the Venusian sensitivity and adds stamina
and spice to it. The Venusian flow tends to make the Mars planetary
force more directly geared into the sphere of emotions, feelings and
sexuality.
The results are:
Lots of fire, lots of desire.
Emotional intensity (this combination is an emotion magnifier).
A rich palette of feelings and also a depth to them.
Strong attractions. Can be fascinated, enchanted, enraptured,
captivated. (Think of mythological stories relating the irresistible
attraction between Ares-Mars and Aphrodite-Venus, and their
passionate amorous episodes.)
Strong likes, 'I love that', 'I adore him'.
Strong dislikes, 'I hate this person', 'I can't bear that'.
*The sex maniac character:
Mars and Venus are the two planets of the libido - Venus being the
watery, sensual side, Mars the fiery side. The reinforcement that
takes place when they meet in the form of an aspect is likely to
create strong sexual needs, at least for periods.
If a person with this aspect is unaware of any sex maniac character
inside themselves, then it is likely they simply do not know
themselves. An entire part of their sensuality remains dormant and
more or less buried in the background of their psyche, which calls
for urgent self-exploration work.
Conversely, this can be an aspect to burn the candle at both ends.
The expression of this aspect can become overdone in an endless
multiplication of sensual experiences. Then it is essential for the
individual to realise that these will never bring full satisfaction
and that, deep inside, they are looking for something of a spiritual
nature.
*The creative character:
Being the two planets of the libido, Venus and Mars are also those
of creativity. It can, of course, be artistic creativity - when the
fire of Mars is channelled towards Venusian aesthetic values. Or the
creativity can manifest in any other endeavour, depending on
inclinations and dispositions.
Whatever nature it may take, this creativity will prove a wonderful
outlet for the inner build up of intensity that accompanies a major
aspect between Venus and Mars. This should be remembered in
particular when counselling someone with this aspect who is going
through a difficult period of inner tension. Encouraging them to
express their creative side through an activity appropriate for
themselves will allow the libido to flow, which may greatly
facilitate the resolution of inner conflicts.
Another important point is that people with this aspect may never
have realised how creative they potentially are, and therefore never
applied their qualities to anything. Children with this aspect, in
particular, should be encouraged to learn some form of artistic
expression, such as drawing or music, not only because it is good
for their flow of libido, but also because they are likely to have
hidden talents.
*Hands:
A powerful advice that can be given to anyone with a major
Venus-Mars aspect and undergoing an emotional crisis is: do
something with your hands. The more creative it can be, the better.
But even if it is not particularly artistic, as in weeding the
garden or taking a few tools and tinkering, working with one's hands
has a powerful balancing effect on the Mars flow of libido.
*Grasping and free-flow:
An important concept in the Clairvision work is that of grasping and
free-flow. These correspond to two different attitudes to sensual
enjoyment (be it related to food, sex, or anything that can be an
object of desire). In the first one, the psyche 'grasps' the object,
making the enjoyment a consuming experience. In the other, there is
a much more relaxed, fluid, open attitude to pleasure in which you
can flow with the experience - hence the name 'free-flow'.
Mars is the planet of grasping, Venus that of free flow. The
dialectic between grasping and free-flow therefore takes a special
importance for the characters related to aspects between these two
planets. The native may well start his/her career as a prime
'grasper', rushing into enjoyment of all kinds as a devouring youth
(Mars-Venus aspects give strong stamina).
From there, there is a learning curve of the free-flow to undertake.
The quicker the person can move towards free-flow, the more the
Mars-Venus character inside themselves is likely to reach balance
and harmony.
Conjunction Venus-Neptune, orb = 04°15'
Neptune has often been considered a 'transcended' Venus, or higher
octave of Venus. Aspects between these two planets therefore
highlight all the higher qualities of Venus.
This is a combination for great compassion and a loving nature, high
receptivity, inspiration and creativity.
A Venus-Neptune conjunction is like a superlative Venus.
There is a great degree of idealism but, as often with Neptune,
great efforts may be needed to move away from nebulousness and
impracticality into concrete realisations.
Feelings, affection and sentimental exchanges play an essential role
tuning into others and feeling what they feel, which can make them
particularly sensitive.
The need for harmony and shared sensitivity is extreme.
Everyone needs to be loved, but people with this aspect are much
more aware of the need than others.
In relation to the merging nature of Neptune, the native is driven
by an extraordinarily deep need to find perfect spiritual union,
like a mystical wedding with an ideal soul mate.
The sooner the native can realise that there is an element of dream
in this aspiration, the less wandering and disillusionment he/she
will have to go through in life. The aspirations of Neptune are
fundamentally of a spiritual nature and can never be durably
fulfilled only through Venusian romance.
Different avenues are open. One is to escape into a world of dream
and fantasies, perhaps reading romantic novels or watching lots of
sentimental movies. One clings to those around for a love one never
really fully receives. At the same time, one part inside behaves as
if Prince Charming was about to walk through the door any minute.
Another is to multiply relationships, each time fooling oneself into
believing that this time perhaps, 'this is the one!' The native goes
from partner to partner, and the blurry character of
Neptune-lower-mode can there take the native into complicated
affairs, secret liaisons or even intrigues. Think for instance of
Shirley MacLaine (Venus opposed Neptune) in Out on a Limb,
idealising her relationships with her politician lover whom she
describes as her companion of several lifetimes.
Another possibility again is to disconnect, close off from one's
sensitivity and act if there was no Venus in one's chart.
Perhaps one of the important lessons the person can learn from this
life is that none of the above mentioned avenues will bring real
satisfaction. Ultimately, this need for a partner is a need for God
and, whether one has a partner or not, fulfilment will only come
from rising to a new spiritual dimension.
Arts: Venus and Neptune are the two artists of the family of
planets. Aspects between the two therefore enhances the sense of
beauty, aesthetic receptivity and artistic creativity. The native
knows how to enjoy visual, auditory and other sensory input far
beyond the average person. He/she can spend entire days of
fascination wandering in art galleries. To him/her, a number of
sensations and perceptions become alive. There is life in colours
and in music, and they know how to drink it through the senses. When
tuning inside, he/she can and does receive flows of creative
inspiration.
Even if the native is not religious, he/she invests a sense of the
Divine in his/her approach to art. Art is an avenue to open to a
greater inner life, and peep into one's unity with universal
harmony.
There is a rich inner life of the senses, but whether the person
will be able to manifest any of this into some concrete realisations
depends on the general structure of the rest of the chart.
On the higher mode, the loving nature turns into universal
compassion and unconditional love. Neptune-Venus is one of the most
inspired and mystical of all planetary combinations. This may take
the form of great flashes of communion with nature, or an active
compassion turned into the service of others, or deep mystical
experiences of devotion and union with the Divine.
Conjunction Mars-Neptune, orb = 00°30'
Because its orb is only 00°30', this aspect is very tight.
Moreover, Mars and Neptune are both strong in this chart.
Also notice that the planetary latitude of Mars ( 00°26') is very close
to that of Neptune ( 01°27'). This means that the two planets are not
only conjunct in longitude but also in latitude
This aspect is therefore very powerful.
If Mars can overcome the Neptunian vagueness, then it is
unstoppable.
The Mars-Neptune combination is not an easy one. It has tremendous
potential if experienced at its highest level but, as is often the
case with Neptune, the potentially high qualities can be lost in
vagueness and blurriness.
*Movement:
The movement of Mars is one of directed force, like an arrow (think
of Mars' pictogram). Neptune's movement is one of universal
expansion and merging. Intrinsically, the combination of the values
of the two planets therefore carries a risk of Mars' direction
losing its focus and dispersing. Another way of putting it is that
the cosmic waters of Neptune may swamp Mars' fire and anaesthetise
its drive.
Characters and soul forces related to the Mars-Neptune association:
*The dreamy character:
Strong imagination and inspiration. Highly poetic.
High ideals.
Can be extremely sweet.
Vagueness.
Lacks stamina.
High ideals but no focus to carry through.
Procrastinator. Drifter. Lacks persistence.
Lacks belly power.
Escapism.
Has great difficulty making decisions, and when he/she makes one,
has even more difficulty starting to implement it. (Mars, the planet
of purpose, direction and decision making, meeting Neptune, the lord
of nebulosity.)
In depth, it is not that the belly force is absent. There can
actually be an exceptional power (Neptune is a planet of immensity).
But the native has great difficulty getting it together, drawing
from it, and setting it in movement.
There can also be a fair amount of anguish at not being able to get
it together.
A typical example is Hamlet - an extremely powerful man, but with a
deeply conflictual relationship to his own power.
On a deep level, this difficult relationship to the will could be
related to the dialectic between faith and power. The person can
draw from their power only if they reach total faith in themselves
and in their direction. Then they can become unstoppable. As long as
this total focus has not been reached, he/she remains muddled in
doubts, hesitation, second thoughts and good reasons to delay the
next move.
*Lack of incarnation:
In terms of subtle bodies, the Mars-Neptune combination can manifest
as a marked problem of incarnation: the person is not fully here.
They do not want to be; their Mars will is turned somewhere else. It
can be a 'missing bit' configuration.
*The drunk/drug addict character:
The combination Mars-Neptune has a great potential for intoxication
and addictions of all kinds (the drive of Mars caught in Neptunian
marshes).
The escapism turns into drugs, sex, perversion, losing one's
identity (Neptunian seeking for merging) in the senses. There is,
behind the self-destructive tendencies, the longing for a merging.
*The unstoppable character:
If Mars can gain Faith, if unity can be achieved on Self and
purpose, then the Mars drive achieves a level of vastness and power
that is unstoppable. Sustained by idealism of a high level and
enlightened inspiration, Mars can achieve anything. Hamlet recovers
his power and wipes out his rival in a duel, Napoleon conquers
Europe.
Of anyone with a Mars-Neptune conjunction, one can say: "Their time
will come."
*The mystic:
The Mars-will becomes oriented towards the high spiritual values of
Neptune. Wanting God, with all one's heart and all one's being. The
focus can become total through the quest for a merging with the
Divine. The Mars-Neptune combination has the potential to make great
mystics.
The Neptune-Mars intoxication power turns into intoxication with
God. The addiction to alcohol or heroin turns into addiction to
nectar. The day-dreaming fantasy and imagination becomes unlimited
vision.
The resulting bliss is unfathomable.
So is the power of he who is one with the Divine.
(Incidentally, many junkies are in reality people with a burning
desire for the Divine, but it is not fully conscious and blurrily
kept in the background by their Neptunian vagueness, and thus
diverted into drug trips.)
A piece of advice for anyone with a prominent Neptune is to fight
vagueness, procrastination, and always be alert to the possibility
of self-delusion.
Drugs and alcohol are to be avoided at all cost. They would damage
your energy much more significantly than with average people.
Moreover, they would precipitate you into exactly what you are
trying to avoid: the blurry, marshmallow-gunked side of Neptune.
There is a challenge in this incarnation.
Sextile Sun-Jupiter, orb = 02°47'
Key words: the king, great solar Jupiterian. Direction: Higher Ego.
If you miss it: dictatorial little ego.
Jupiter has an affinity with the number 6, which reinforces the
power of sextiles to Jupiter.
Sun-Jupiter is perhaps the brightest and luckiest of all planetary
combinations.
Imparts a number of Jupiterian features to the personality:
-Enthusiasm, optimism.
-Broad-mindedness.
-Broad ideals. Capacity to do things in large measure.
This is an aspect of fullness, and maturity.
The Sun reinforces self confidence, self trust, belief in oneself
and trust of one's ability when facing difficult situations. Sense
of loyalty, dignity, noble disposition, high sense of leadership and
rulership. It would be an excellent aspect for a king!
*Exaggerate characters:
A Sun-Jupiter character is likely to have an inclination for doing
things in large measure.
It is a 'too-much' association, which by nature may well have a
tendency to exaggerate at times.
Rather than one exaggerating character, it may be an exaggeration of
a number of characters, and of various features in the personality.
*Direction: Higher Ego.
Within the palette of soul forces, the Sun-Jupiter is one which
tends towards the Ego. The higher and more philosophical sides of
Jupiter are enhanced by the Sun. Jupiter is reminded by the Sun that
its need for expansion is unlimited and will never be satisfied by
anything less than a full spiritual realisation. This can be a 'high
quest' aspect.
*The danger of a bloated little ego:
At the same time, this clear direction towards the Higher Ego is
very much needed because, with this aspect, the little ego side of
the Sun could also be bloated in Jupiterian proportions. There is
the potential for egotism in large measure with pride, ostentation,
arrogance. There is likely to be at least some periods in the
person's life when the little ego will aim at becoming dictatorial.
*There may also be, at times, personality clashes, conflicts with
figures of authority and with hierarchy in general.
Trine Jupiter-Uranus, orb = 02°04'
Key words: quest, vision, broad dimension.
Two planets of breaking the limits. Two planets of journeying far.
Broadmindedness, progressive mind.
Great sense of humour (which pertains to both Jupiter and Uranus).
Unexpected opportunities.
Surprising changes in the life situation. (Watch Uranus' transits
carefully.)
Characters and soul forces related to the Jupiter-Uranus
association:
*The Jupiter-Uranus faith character:
Based on Jupiterian expansion, supported by the impetus and
forwardgoingness of Uranus.
Optimism that nothing can stop.
Confidence which embraces life unrestrictedly.
Going for opportunities, knowing how to take chances.
Having a sense of the stream of life, knowing how to flow with it.
Charismatic, inspirational to others.
*The Jupiter-Uranus Grail seeker character:
Here, these two spiritual planets combine towards a 'Quest for the
Grail' direction - another level of application of the 'long
journey' value common to both of them.
Noble, knight-like, aspiration.
Stops at nothing. Ready to face all trials and overcome any
limitations on the way.
*The Jupiter-Uranus great traveller character:
A lower version of the Grail seeker. Engages in long journeys as if
they were a quest. They are in search of something (without
necessarily knowing what) and express their need in the form of
physical wandering.
Search for adventure, new experiences.
Definitely going somewhere (but where?)
Man/woman with a mission (but not always clear as to which one).
At times, the erratic side of Uranus can create a need for just
'taking off' unexpectedly. Jupiter will then push for going far
rather than exploring nearby neighbourhoods.
*The Jupiter-Uranus cosmic itch character:
Powerful. A character of a certain dimension, with ambition in large
measure as Jupiter can have.
But tends to be swayed in new directions in a hectic fashion, and
not according to their will.
Impulsiveness. Readily caught up in moves, changes or enterprises.
Not in control of their destiny.
*Vision:
Jupiter is the planet of the third eye and inner spiritual guidance,
Uranus is that of flashes of intuition.
Vertical thinking.
Clairvoyance beyond limited little astral worlds. Far reaching inner
vision which can comprehend a large scope of reality.
Trine Jupiter-Nth Node, orb = 04°59'
Sextile Jupiter-Sth Node, orb = 04°59'
The North Node stands for destiny and one's future. Its association
with Jupiter points towards the values of this planet in order to
find one's path and solve one's problems. This means the need of
moving out of one's shell, being outgoing and daring, grasping
opportunities while they are at hand. A positive attitude to life is
needed with enthusiasm, optimism and broadminedness. Travelling may
help, and bring opportunities for inner shifts and revelations.
Sextile Jupiter-Black Moon, orb = 03°20'
Key words: Jupiter sharpened by the Black Moon, or bogged in the
shadow.
Jupiter can greatly benefit from the sharp, exacting nature of the
Black Moon. The need for perfection and the absolute, which is
inherent to the Black Moon can give direction to Jupiter's values of
expansion and growth, and thus help it gain momentum and achieve in
the world.
With this aspect, your Jupiterian power of material realisation
depends a great deal on your clarity of purpose and your sense of
integrity. If there is no truth for you in a project or a particular
job, better not waste you time on it; your Jupiter enthusiasm would
refuse to support you in it, and you would be likely to achieve but
mediocre results. Conversely, when you feel that truth is on your
side, you can find deep inner resources that make you unstoppable.
Another possible scenario with this aspect is that the shadow side
of the Black Moon, i.e. deep psychological conflicts buried in your
subconscious mind, obliterate the expansion power of Jupiter. Put in
simple terms, this means that if you have difficulties achieving
anything substantial in the material world, it could well be because
the power of your subconscious and unconscious mind is in the way.
This can mean that a thorough exploration is needed. But for some
people, it can be the opposite: too much self-exploration renders
the shadow more invalidating! Rather than a simple formula, what is
needed here is the establishment of a harmonious relationship with
the unconscious parts of your mind.
Sextile Mercury-Venus, orb = 03°31'
A harmonious combination of planetary forces.
It brings lightness, youthfulness, flexibility, joyfulness.
Sensitivity, artistic abilities, sense of aesthetics - the Mercurian
mind taking up Venusian sensuality.
Mercury likes to communicate, Venus adds softness. The associations
suggests diplomatic skills; the native knows how to ease tension and
create a space of harmony in which communication can flow.
The native gets along well with young people.
On a higher, spiritual, level, Mercury and Venus are two planets of
connection with angelic beings. The conjunction may therefore
indicate the potential for spiritual connections of an extremely
high level - but that will probably not appear much until the native
follows a serious work of spiritual transformation.
In most cases, however, a Mercury-Venus conjunction is not extremely
significant in itself, for two reasons. Firstly, Mercury and Venus
are fast moving planets, never extremely far from each other, so
that the conjunction occurs relatively often. Secondly, both planets
can change their characteristics dramatically depending on which
other planets they are aspected too.
Significance will come more from other aspects contracted by Venus
and Mercury. Conjunctions usually indicate accumulations of forces.
By itself, a Mercury-Venus does not accumulate much. If however,
other planets are either conjunct or otherwise aspected to Mercury
and Venus, then there may be significant reinforcement of these
other connections.
Sextile Venus-Pluto, orb = 00°48'
With an orb of only 00°48', this aspect is significantly tight.
Moreover, Venus is strong in this chart.
This aspect therefore plays a significant role in the chart.
Key words: Venus' sensuality and creativity with Pluto's superlative
intensity and depth.
The intensity of Pluto penetrating the Venusian sphere of feelings.
This can lead to fiery and irresistible attractions, passion on the
edge, nuclear bomb kind of emotions -
loves that takes you to the limit!
Venus-Pluto characters and soul forces:
*Love and destruction:
Pluto's symbolism of death and resurrection, when transposed into
the Venusian field of relationships, can make the person attracted
to destructive things or people; it can also give a tendency to
destroy the things one loves.
*Abysmal sensuality:
Passion over the edge.
Sensuality beyond measure.
Fascination with sex.
Fantasies going deep and far, acted out beyond the norm.
Sex maniac character.
Desire and sex as an unconscious pull to annihilate one's
individuality and limitations.
*Creativity beyond limits:
The other side of the combination can be a great creativity - the
Venusian creativity magnified through Pluto's irresistible
intensity.
*Exceptional astral power:
In Hermeticism, Venus is the planet related to the kidney, the organ
of creative power, but also of astrality.
Pluto, the transcended Mars, can bring superlative strength to the
kidney.
It is in relation to this deep, special kidney energy that the
Venus-Pluto combination can have so much sex drive, or make love for
days and nights non stop.
There is however, danger of kidney exhaustion, if the Venus-Pluto
character is allowed to rule the native's life unrestrictedly and
over a prolonged period.
*Transcended sexuality, purity and alchemy:
There is, deep inside, a need to transcend sensuality (but
preferably after having gone through it thoroughly).
Can be a combination for extreme purity.
Pluto's phenomenal potential for transformation applied to the
sphere of sexuality and sexual energy.
A highly alchemical combination (Venus is the planet of the jing,
Pluto that of the Grail).
Potential for a real sublimation of the sexual energy into higher
states of consciousness
*Venus eclipsed:
As in the myth of Pluto abducting Persephone into the underworld, a
conjunction or major aspect to Pluto always leaves the possibility
open for a total eclipse of the values of a planet.
Unacknowledged, unrecognised, depth of desire.
Completely out of touch with their belly, their desire, and their
fantasies.
May become aware of their real sexual desire only late in life,
perhaps due to the trigger of a particular relationship.
The problem is that by being out of touch with their Venus-Pluto
sensitivity, a person is also likely to be completely out of touch
with the corresponding creativity.
*If your partner has a major Venus-Pluto aspect:
Perhaps even more than with any other major aspect to Pluto, you
will need to descend into your deep Pluto side in order to match
your partner. But will you be able to cope?
Trine Venus-Nth Node, orb = 07°07'
Venus between one's past (South Node) and one's future (North Node)
points towards the necessity of learning Venusian values to find
oneself and positively walk towards one's destiny. Importance of
developing one's sensitivity. Some artistic, creative activities may
be a great help. Conversely, there is a danger of completely missing
the point if one lives only according to materialistic, competitive
ideals.
Sextile Mercury-Mars, orb = 01°15'
The Mars-Mercury combination tends to impart the qualities of Mars
to the mental organisation:
- alertness, sharpness, mental agility, mental stamina;
- discernment, critical mind;
- can have a lot of clarity if he/she does not let himself/herself
be heated up with anger;
- sharp tongue, can talk a lot;
- enjoys debates, likes to challenge ideas and people,
argumentative.
Sextile Mars-Saturn, orb = 04°13'
Key words: channelled will power, self control and superior
perseverance; or inhibition by Saturnian limitations.
Mars and Saturn are two planets of antagonistic values: Mars by
nature is fiery, outgoing, impulsive; Saturn is cautious,
introverted, and cool. The encounter between the two contains great
promises, but will pose a challenge in integrating the dialectically
opposed qualities.
Characters and soul forces related to the Mars-Saturn combination:
*The Mars-Saturn will power (if harmonious integration has been
reached):
Mars' libido-fire-will be well channelled by Saturn. The arrow of
Mars knows exactly where it is going.
Capacity for concentration. Planned and carefully prepared action.
Precision. Organisation. Discipline. Self control.
Persistence, determination. Duration in effort. Unwavering.
Has earth element (Saturn) to support the Mars. Common sense.
Grounding.
Solid, serious, responsible, reliable, trustworthy.
Good at progressive enterprises that succeed by methodically
overcoming obstacle after obstacle.
Good at building - a master builder.
Good judgment (Mars -Saturn is THE combination for judgement). Good
at making decisions. Excellent manager/board executive. Often picked
for positions of responsibility.
*The Mars-Saturn cautious character:
Thinks so much before acting that he/she ends up doing nothing.
Caution becomes inhibition.
Often has lots of good reasons to delay action: think about risks,
think about things going wrong, or 'We've got to do it perfectly
right', or perhaps ethical concerns. Sometimes unable to discern
that in reality, these are pretexts the mind uses to justify
blocking action.
Possibly ascetic tendencies.
Sextile Mars-Pluto, orb = 05°34'
Key Words: irresistible fire, no limits, volcanic emotions.
*Archetypal movement:
The planet of outgoing fire, meeting the planet of transcended fire.
Exponential reinforcement of the fire through the encounter of the
two principles.
Instead of simply rushing out, as with Mars, the fire is first
concentrated inside through the internalising power of Pluto; it
builds up to the point where it explodes out in overwhelming
tempests.
Mars-Pluto soul forces and characters:
*Volcanic emotions, powerhouse of feelings - the Dragon
Mars is the planet of violent emotions and venom, Pluto that of
pushing things to the limit and transcending.
On the lower mode, it can lead to inner rage, fury, and irresistible
passions - not unlike the lava of a volcano.
On the higher mode, it is the real power of love -(not just loving
custard) which can move mountains; the Cosmic Fire that nothing can
resist.
*The warrior that knows no limits:
The planet of strength, libido and violence meeting that of no
limits.
Will, capital W.
Tons of energy, relentless, unstoppable.
Once set in a direction, it is indivertible ('Terminator' style).
Can be exceptionally solid physically.
Think of Muhhamed Ali (Mars square Pluto), and of Bruce Lee
(interestingly called 'the dragon') whose chart also shows a square
- a T-square with Mars-Venus-Moon conjunct on one side,
Jupiter-Saturn conjunct on the other side, and Pluto on the edge.
On a different note: Saddam Hussein (trine).
*Sex
Nuclear bomb kind of libido.
Devastating sex.
At least a few violent fantasies. At most, no limits!
Sometimes also devastated by sex.
*Exceptional occult/astral power
Born exorcist. The astral intensity associated with the Mars-Pluto
combination gives a natural domination over entities, and the fire
and power needed to fight dark forces.
*The edge between the highest purity and the dark side:
Has the power to fight dark forces, but also has the power to become
one.
(Darth Vador, surely, had a major Mars-Pluto aspect.)
*Eclipsed Mars - the wimp
Pluto has the power to hide the values of a planet. In some cases, a
major Mars-Pluto aspect will take a very different feel from what we
have described so far. The values of Mars are eclipsed, and the
person faces loads of issues related to lack of self-confidence,
lack of stamina, lack of punch. The Mars force behaves as a missing
bit. Major self-exploration work is needed before the person can
achieve anything in life, with particular satisfaction.
*If your partner has a major Mars-Pluto aspect:
Had you realised how dangerous your partner can be?
If your own Pluto is strong, all this will feel like familiar ground
- exciting.
If you haven't, perhaps think about taking out good insurance.
Sextile Mercury-Neptune, orb = 00°45'
With an orb of only 00°45', this aspect is significantly tight.
Moreover, Neptune is strong in this chart.
This aspect therefore plays a significant role in the chart.
Imparts the qualities of Neptune onto the Mercury-mind.
There is not really a specific Mercury-Neptune character. Rather, a
Mercury-Neptune aspect, not unlike a Sun-Neptune aspect, strengthens
the values of Neptune in the psyche. Strict astrological symbolism
would analyse the Mercury-Neptune association as impacting more in
the sphere of the mental functioning, and Sun-Neptune as more deeply
ingrained into the essence of the person. In the real world,
however, you may find those nuances do not always apply.
*The imaginative, inspired character:
Intuition. Imagination.
Sensitivity. Great intuitive understanding of psychology.
Can have a high capacity for tuning into inner images and visions.
Inspiration.
High ideals.
*The psychic:
This psychic is an extension of the imaginative character.
Depending on the depth of the individual, and on the amount of work
they have done on themselves, the Mercury-Neptune combinations can
manifest in the form of:
- dream time visions;
- premonitions, presentiments; deja vu, dreams that come true;
- talent for Tarot readings, aura readings;
- channelling and psychic abilities; ability to talk to spirits and
various kinds of non-physical beings;
- clairvoyance;
- healing abilities.
Sextile Saturn-Neptune, orb = 04°43'
Key words: depth, inspiration, artistic and spiritual tendencies.
The combination has excellent sides: Saturn counteracts the possible
blurriness associated with Neptune, and provides a structure to
receive Neptunian inspiration in a conscious, useable way - not just
in the form of vague dreams as is always the danger with Neptune.
Great values of inspiration, artistic and spiritual, can correspond
to this aspect, as well as compassion (Neptune) with wisdom
(Saturn).
The Neptunian idealism also can only benefit from Saturn's structure
and capacity to make things concrete. For instance Gandhi (grand
trine Saturn, Neptune, Moon) who was able to inspire a
spiritual/cultural movement with his ideals.
Possible drawbacks of the association could be a certain coldness
(Saturn and Neptune are both cold planets). In the same symbolic
line, ascetic tendencies.
However, Saturn and Neptune are both slow planets. Aspects between
them last for several months, and therefore appear in the chart of
anyone born during these months. This means that they are not
necessarily very specific, that is, significant in an individual
chart, unless Saturn or Neptune are aspected to other planets or to
the angles.
Characters related to the Saturn-Neptune combination:
*The Saturn-Neptune musician/artist:
This combination of planetary forces can give great musical
abilities.
Sense of harmony - Neptunian harmony combining with Saturnian sense
of structure. 'Harmony of the spheres' (celestial non-physical
music) combination. Intuitive perception of structures and
archetypal forms behind music, and delight in their contemplation.
Depth of connection.
Power of concentration. But at the same time, with depth and not
with a narrow focus. Capacity to embrace vast topics.
Sextile Neptune-Pluto, orb = 05°04'
Key word: an aspect of a generation rather than indicative of
individual features.
Uranus and Neptune are very slow planets. Aspects between them
therefore last for years, and are therefore not specific (that is,
not meaningful on an individual level), unless aspected to other
planets or to the angles.
Square Sun-Moon, orb = 05°42'
The Sun stands for yang values, the active side of the personality,
the conscious. The Moon stands for yin values, the more
contemplative side of the personality, the unconscious. A square
between the Sun and the Moon can indicate difficulties coming to
terms with pairs of opposites within the psyche.
In practice, what can this mean? Being torn between two possible
careers, each with good and bad sides. Having to make a difficult
choice between two partners. Having to make decisions that will lead
to two different kinds of life, each appealing to different parts of
yourself. Wanting to be in summer while it's winter, in winter when
it's summer. Wanting to be in America when one is in Australia, and
so on. The person has lots of characters with opposed needs.
It is essential to undergo a systematic work of exploration of these
sub-personalities, their roots and their inclinations. Otherwise the
pull towards different directions may not only create suffering and
indecision, but also a certain instability.
Conjunction Uranus-Nth Node, orb = 02°55'
Opposition Uranus-Sth Node, orb = 02°55'
North Node stands for one's destiny and stepping into one's future.
Its association with Uranus suggests that it is by using the values
of this planet that one can resolve a number of major problems in
this life and move towards one's next evolutionary steps.
This may well imply the capacity to shake one's routines and develop
one's originality. Use lateral thinking. Be daring, not letting
yourself be confined by established models and cannons. There is a
need for independence; if one lets oneself be moulded by one's
environment, one runs the risk of missing one's destiny. It could
well be that a few times during this incarnation, some radical
changes will be needed.
Sextile Sun-Uranus, orb = 04°51'
Key words: originality and intelligence; imparts strong Uranus
values to the personality. A life full of surprises.
*A life full of surprises:
Change as a way of life. Lightning and earthquakes - as in I Ching
Hexagram no. 51.
Sudden opportunities and unexpected life circumstances. (Uranus'
transits are to be watched carefully.)
*Prometheus:
Progressive mind. Originality. Deep need to be different, not to
conform to established patterns, but to develop something special
about oneself. Need to do what other people cannot do. Need to stand
out.
Hates confinement in routines or boring social circles.
Pull towards things which are totally different and new.
Strong orientation towards the future. Promethean personality. Not
afraid of transgressing limits if needed.
Deeply believes that he/she is destined to 'something else and
greater' and therefore can achieve what no-one else would even dare
to attempt.
Opposition Uranus-Black Moon, orb = 01°16'
The Black Moon reinforces the independent and original nature of
Uranus. If well aspected to the rest of the chart, it can be an
extremely creative aspect.
Black Moon - Lilith and Uranus have a number of features in common:
taste for independence, dislike of routines and anything which can
perceived as enslaving constraints, affinity with original things,
and a rebel - if not rebellious - nature. (In Kabbalistic mythology,
Lilith was Adam's first wife. She rebelled and left him because she
did not want to be subjected to his control.)
On the lower mode, this aspect can enhance the potential
restlessness associated with Uranus and make it difficult for the
native to stick to long term enterprises or follow any kind of
discipline.
On the higher mode, the sharpness and originality of Black Moon will
reinforce the imagination and creativity of Uranus.
On an even higher mode, the metaphysical depth of the Black Moon
combines with Uranus in the chart of great visionaries such as Sri
Aurobindo (Mars, Uranus, Black Moon conjunct in the 12th), or Edgar
Cayce (opposition). Think also of the depth of vision of people such
as John Kennedy (opposition), or Steven Spielberg (opposition).
Sextile Sun-Nth Node, orb = 07°46'
Trine Sun-Sth Node, orb = 07°46'
The Shining power of the Sun leading from the South Node (past
lives) to the North Node (future). The configuration points towards
the necessity of manifesting Ego and heart qualities in order to
find one's life direction and fulfil it.
Trine Sun-Black Moon, orb = 06°07'
Especially (but not only) in a female chart, a major aspect of Black
Moon to the Sun tends to create a 'Lilith character': strong-willed,
stubborn, independent mind and lover of freedom, original,
non-conformist, rebellious, passionately disliking routines and
enslavement at large. Lilith was the woman who did not need Adam and
left him - not a common thing to do in early biblical times - one
reason being that she bluntly refused to lie under him during
lovemaking.
There is a profound need to go beyond limitations of all kinds.
This, naturally, leads the native to challenge establishment. At
times, it will create difficulties; a Lilith character does not
hesitate to tell her/his boss what she/he thinks of him, and can't
give a damn about consequences once she/he has made up her mind to
do something.
The eyes shine, at times defiantly. The personality is sharp, with a
marked taste for intensity. This, in Clairvision language,
corresponds to violent astrality - venom in large measure!
There are strong likes and dislikes, and a tendency to know
immediately whether one likes someone or not.
This may have to do with the profound insights into the
psychological motivations of other people. Being herself/himself so
well in touch with her/his shadow, the native has a fine
understanding of other people's psyche. A Lilith character is often
subtle, with a great sense of nuances, and an EXTREME sensitivity.
When experienced on its highest level, a major aspect of Black Moon
to the Sun can make the native quite psychic: premonitory dreams,
intuition, natural affinity with the hidden mysteries of life, and
clairvoyance.
Conjunction Mercury-Saturn, orb = 05°28'
The Mercury-Saturn combination is usually favourable, in particular
for intelligence.
Saturn, planet of limits, can by itself become restricted and
excessively earthy. Mercury adds lightness to it, and speeds up its
vibration level. Out of two archetypal figures attached to Saturn,
the peasant and the scientist, Mercury pushes for the latter by
adding air element, sharpness of mind, intuition and some
originality. Also, Mercury's sense of humour can only contribute to
lightening the heavy sides of Saturn.
Mercury, planet of the mind, may have among its drawbacks a certain
superficiality, a lack of fixity, and instability - all of which
will be positively counterbalanced by Saturn's weight. Mercury is
good at establishing connections between things but may, by itself,
find it difficult to ground these into practical applications -
which can only be improved by Saturn's earth element.
The qualities of structure inherent in Saturn will favour many
positive traits in the Mercury-mental organisation: depth of mind,
concentration power and focus, precision, method, mental rigour and
logic, common sense, judgement and discernment, ability for sciences
and/or sustained studies.
It also brings certain Saturnian features to the personality such as
perseverance, seriousness, honesty, trustworthiness, reliability,
and a touch of reserve.
The Mercury-Saturn combination favours practicality and management
skills - someone serious, dependable and reliable, who can carry out
tasks properly.
The possible drawbacks would be more or less the same in a
conjunction or a trine as they are in a square or an opposition.
Saturn always brings a certain danger of dryness. The native must
make sure that he/she does not become caught in cold and sterile
logical patterns.
If your partner has a major Mercury-Saturn aspect, different tactics
may be envisaged.
You may want to appear as a true, serious, reliable partner - the
ideal match for an accountant.
You may also decide that some fantasy is needed in the routine, and
decide to shake their logical structure a bit. Why not? That may
actually do them a lot of good, if they cope.
Perhaps a combination of both attitudes is the right balance to
strike.
The Mercury-Saturn combination has nothing against originality.
However, the one thing they will probably not forgive you for is
inconsistency.
Conjunction Mercury-Pluto, orb = 04°19'
Key Words: Investigating, probing mind. Deep need for metamorphoses.
*The Mercury endowed with Pluto qualities:
Deep, penetrating mind.
Curious, inquisitive mind.
Fascination with mysteries.
Likes to probe or unveil that which is secret or hidden.
*Pluto features:
Essentially, a Mercury-Pluto aspect tends to impart Pluto qualities
to the personality - not unlike a Sun-Pluto aspect. Following strict
astrological symbolism, the Pluto values tend to be more clearly
manifested in the mental sphere. In reality, things are not as
separate, the person has a strong Pluto planetary force with:
- magnetic personality; intensity;
- loves secrecy;
- and a number of cliches often attributed to the sign of Scorpio in
astrology.
*The Phoenix-Crises:
Perhaps the most significant element in a major Mercury-Pluto aspect
is the propensity to undergo massive transformations, often in the
form of crises. These can take various forms, from family dramas to
nervous breakdown, or simply a powerful transformation path.
The common point to these crises is that the native emerges with a
different system of values and direction in life (the same applies,
to a great extent, to the crises undergone by people with a major
Sun-Pluto aspect).
Here astrology can play a very positive role, by pointing out that
there is a huge inner need for transformation. For in reality, what
the person wants and needs is transformation, not crisis! If this
need can be identified and addressed through a process of
self-transformation, then all crises can be avoided.
Pluto people, however, can have an amazing ability to disguise and
eclipse this inner yearning for metamorphosis. Bringing themselves
to crisis is sometimes the only way for them to make the move.
But again, in many cases (not always) the crises could be avoided by
a 'clear vision' of the situation, and taking the necessary steps to
remedy it.
Conjunction Saturn-Pluto, orb = 09°47'
Key word: contained/restrained explosion. Rock solid.
*A slow aspect:
As with all combinations of slow planets, a Saturn-Pluto aspect
lasts several months, and thus appears in all the charts of people
born during that period. It is therefore not a very specific aspect.
As such, its individual significance will vary depending on other
aspects to Saturn and Pluto.
*Movement: restrained explosion.
The nature of Saturn is to put limits. The nature of Pluto is to
implode and then explode. The combined movement is one of
containment of Pluto's release - restrained explosion. The result is
either a phenomenal build up of tension, or a control bordering on
total mastery over the force.
Think of Rudolf Steiner, who had Pluto conjunct Mars on an angle,
and trine Saturn.
*The danger of suppression:
Pluto needs to transform. If Saturn is allowed to impede these
transformations, the result may be a climax of frustration, with
suppressed anger and teeth grinding. The native goes through periods
of feeling trapped as if in a cage.
*Rock solid characters:
Saturn, planet of earth. Pluto, planet of the underworld. The
combination is dense to the extreme - solid like rock - and can lead
to extremely crystallised characters.
Endurance. Resistance beyond measure (both the good sides and the
not so good sides of resistance)
Can be extremely heavy. Can become earth bound.
Sextile Pluto-Nth Node, orb = 06°19'
Trine Pluto-Sth Node, orb = 06°19'
This configuration points towards the necessity for great
transformation during this incarnation. If the native undergoes
these metamorphoses, his/her condition of consciousness at the end
of this life will be completely different from how it was at the
beginning.
The less the native resists the transformations, the more he/she
understands them and flows with them, the less they are likely to be
dramatic or painful. The more he/she can move towards his/her new
self, the less there is need for crises.
Trine Pluto-Black Moon, orb = 07°58'
An aspect which can strongly reinforce the occult nature of Pluto,
giving tremendous insight into the hidden mysteries of life and
sharp astral energy in plenty.
On the lower mode: rich, complex and tenacious sexual fantasies or
on the contrary, fear of sexuality.
On the higher mode, the need for purity, perfection and absolute can
be extreme.
There is also an immense potential of energy available to realise
one's goals, but one needs to be able to go deep inside oneself to
contact it and tap from it.
=============================================================
PLANETS IN HOUSES
=============================================================
1st house: Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune.
Venus in the 1st house:
The planet of harmony, beauty, charm, attraction, and sensuality in
the house of the personality and physical appearance.
The astrological significance of Venus however, can be very much
modified depending on which aspects it is involved in. Rather than
indicating a fixed set of psychological features, this position
deeply reinforces the significance of the aspects of Venus, making
their related qualities essential to the native's personality.
Mars in the 1st house:
By itself, Mars in the house of the personality tends to make the
native dynamic, active, courageous, ambitious. This is the house of
the body, and so Mars imparts robustness, an energetic temperament,
and vital energy.
Mars, however, can take different faces depending on its aspects
with other planets. The aspects of the Mars in this chart are
therefore to be studied carefully; the qualities associated with
them are likely to be particularly important in the native's
personality.
Because Mars is in the 1st house, it tends to be more buoyant, fiery
and impulsive, which in turn will have to be taken into
consideration when judging the aspects.
Jupiter in the 1st house:
The 1st is the house of the personality, especially what you show of
it to the world. Jupiterian qualities are therefore likely to play a
central role in the native's make up: optimism, outgoing nature,
joviality, sense of humour, generosity, expansiveness. Jupiterian
people know how to enjoy life. They are good at creating
atmospheres; they know how to act and are sometimes even theatrical.
They know how to 'go for it' and take chances in life.
Often some of the main lessons they have to learn are how to take
care of tiny details and where to put the limit. This could, for
instance, manifest in the form of a tendency to overeat and put on
excess weight.
Neptune in the 1st house:
Neptune is the planet of dreams and inspiration, but also of
illusion.
The 1st house is about the personality and what you show of it to
the world.
Thus Neptune in the 1st can indicate a personality that shows the
qualities of Neptune: inspiration, intuition, receptivity, intense
dream life, an affinity with music and arts in general, and
mysticism.
Even if well-aspected, people with Neptune in the 1st can only
benefit from developing clarity and precision, and fighting
confusion in all its forms.
3rd house: Sth Node, Black Moon.
Black Moon in the 3rd house:
Black Moon, symbol of the deepest inner passions in the house of
brothers and sisters and communication.
This position can manifest in several different ways. One of them is
the death of a brother or sister during one's early years. If such
death has taken place (even if only in the form of a miscarriage by
the mother), it is likely to have left an extremely profound imprint
in the native's psyche. It can be an ambivalent fascination-fear of
death, or a deeply ingrained belief that one has no right to live.
In any case it calls for a thorough work of self exploration - the
long term consequences of the event are likely to be much deeper
than you may think at first.
Black Moon in the third house can also indicate that the native
finds in writing (notes, a journal, or even stories or books) an
outlet for the deep passions and emotions of his/her unconscious
mind. Engaging in communication with others can be a way of touching
and addressing profound issues inside oneself.
9th house: Uranus, Nth Node.
Uranus in the 9th house:
In the house of long journeys Uranus is likely to give itchy feet,
with at times some sudden urges to go travelling - preferably to
unconventional places and/or in unconventional ways. Think of
Kontiki-type expeditions, or Around the World in Eighty Days. In the
future it will be an ideal position for space travelling.
In the house of philosophical ideas Uranus imparts high ideals,
humanitarianism, scientific investigation, metaphysical and occult
research. Because of the independent nature of Uranus there is a
need to discover new ways no matter what the field may be.
Uranus, planet of the higher mind is in a good position in the house
of studies.
There can be an attraction to study Uranus type of topics -
telecommunications, computers, electronics, technology, engineering,
or possibly astrology, esotericism.
It can also indicate that the studies are conducted in Uranus ways -
starting suddenly and unexpectedly and also possibly quitting
suddenly - and using unconventional methods of learning.
Nth Node in the 9th house and South Node in the 3rd house:
South Node in the 3rd house can indicate karma with one's brothers
and sisters, or with people in one's immediate surrounding.
It can also indicate past lives in which Mercury values and
occupations were predominant (communication, writings, trade, etc.)
North Node in the 9th points towards the necessity to broaden one's
horizons. There is a need to develop open mindedness and favour the
philosophical side of oneself. A strong Jupiter planetary force will
help (somehow, the native needs to move into their Jupiterian values
in order to find their destiny). Perhaps some travel (especially in
distant lands) will be instrumental in bringing about expansion. Or
perhaps the expansion will come from going to university, or
undertaking studies.
If a person with this axis of the nodes happens to be insular and
gregarious, it is well possible that they are trapped in patterns of
their past instead of stepping into their destiny.
10th house: Mercury, Saturn.
Mercury in the 10th house:
The planet of the mind, communications and changes in the house of
work and career.
Combining astrological symbolism here leads to two main avenues:
1) A professional direction in a Mercury-related field: writing, the
press and the media in general, advertisement, communications (from
mail to satellites), professions involving a lot of travelling, or a
lot of speaking (as in lecturing), or trading and commerce.
2) A Mercury attitude to career: versatility, 'Jack of all trades',
industrious (as in Mercury, the busiest of all gods and men), a
capacity to carry on several activities at the same time. Lots of
changes and movements. Adaptability and flexibility.
Possibly a certain degree of instability or even scattering.
Saturn in the 10th house:
The planet of structure and perseverance in the house of career.
It can give great ambition, a need to succeed supported by the
steady focus of Saturn.
Methodical and systematic approach to one's advancement in life.
Persistence, diligence, industriousness, capacity to display long
term efforts.
Can give an orientation towards politics.
Self-made people.
11th house: Sun, Pluto.
Sun in the 11th house:
The Sun in the house of protective friends, great projects and
social realisations.
Creates an attraction towards projects of a certain dimension, and
towards realisations that will benefit the entire community.
Powerful help from friends in high positions. Think of seeking them,
if you don't see them around you, for they may not be far at all,
and may be willing to support you.
Pluto in the 11th house:
Pluto in the house of friends, relating to communities and carrying
on long term projects.
Pluto in the 11th can mean that one is attracted to Pluto-kind
groups: intense, investigating secrets, or even underground groups.
It's the perfect position to be a member of a secret society.
In the house of friendship, Pluto can mean one tends to associate
with Pluto kinds of people (intense, magnetic, etc.) Perhaps because
of their Pluto, or perhaps simply because of the way the native'
Pluto is invested in the 11th house, these friends may trigger
intense transformations, personality shifts, and changes in life
direction.
Pluto can also mean friendships established along Pluto values and
modalities; this tends to bring the instinctual level in these
associations: friendships with guts, powerful attractions, need for
'absolute' friends. It can also mean deeply influencing one's
friends (or perhaps vice versa). Taken to the extreme, it can mean
power plays.
Moon in the 8th house:
Key words: rich sexual imagination, psychic disposition.
This configuration gives a Pluto-ish hue to the Moon, and thus will
add fire to the emotional life.
The Moon-feeling in the house of sex could indicate really rich and
fulfilling sexual experiences. Blending, merging. Deeply nurtured by
intimacy. Deep need for touch.
Moon, the planet of imagination, can here indicate a particularly
rich pool of fantasies. Remember also that the Moon is the planet of
indulging.
Because the Moon governs nutrition, there may be (especially in the
second part of life) a danger of transposing sexual needs and
desires into eating - a transfer which will not bring any
satisfaction but could lead to food excesses.
The 8th being the house of the occult, the intuitive and imaginative
side of the Moon is well supported here. This can also be a
favourable position for psychic faculties, clairvoyance, premonitory
dreams, and dream time visions. The position is also evocative of
'imaginative consciousness' as meant in anthroposophy.
Capacity to tune into non-physical beings. Deep intuitive
understanding and feeling for spiritual mysteries.

GLOSSARY OF ASTROLOGICAL TERMS
=============================================================
Angles: in an astrological chart, the 4 angles are the Ascendant,
the Descendant, the Midheaven and the Imum Coeli. Planets close to
an angle exert a powerful influence in the chart.
Ascendant: that part of the horizon where the Sun and other planets
rise. In astrological charts, planets close to the ascendant are
considered especially powerful. The Ascendant is the beginning of
the first house.
Aspect: the angular relationship between planets. For instance, a
sextile takes place when 2 planets are separated by 60 degrees or
so. Aspects associate the values of the two planets.
Cluster: more than 2 planets in a conjunction. It indicates an
intense concentration of psychological forces.
Conjunct/conjunction: when 2 planets are close to each other
(usually, less than 10 degrees). The energies of those planets
combine with an intense effect.
Descendant: one of the four angles. That part of the horizon where
the Sun and other planets set. In the chart, the In the chart, the
descendant is the beginning of the 7th house.
Heptagram: a mandala-like drawing of the 7 major planets (Canopus
can easily draw one for you). The heptagram points towards a 'pole'
planet, which is strong is in the chart.
Houses: an astrological chart is divided into 12 sectors, starting
with the ascendant. Each sector is assigned to one area of life; for
instance the 8th house relates to sexuality, the 10th to career, and
so on.
Note: if the time of birth is not known, one cannot calculate the
angles and the houses.
Imum Coeli, or IC: one of the four angles. The lowest/deepest point
in the vertical axis of a chart. At midnight, local time, the Sun is
on the Imum Coeli, or IC. In the chart, the IC is the beginning of
the 4th house.
Major aspects: conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition.
Midheaven, or MC: one of the four angles. That part of the vertical
axis where the Sun reaches its highest point. At midday, local time,
the Sun is on the Midheaven, or MC. The MC is the beginning of the
10th house.
Opposite/opposition: when 2 planets are 180 degrees away. The
energies of those planets combine with a challenging effect.
Nodes (North Node and South Node): the nodes are the two points of
intersection of the orbits of the Moon and the Earth. The South
Node, stands for qualities developed in one's past lives; the North
Node for one's future destiny.
North Node: see Nodes.
Orb: a perfect opposition takes place when 2 planets are 180 degrees
apart. If they are 178 degrees apart, one says the orb of the
opposition is 2 degrees. Same with the other aspects. The smaller
the orb, the more powerful the aspect is.
Sextile: when 2 planets are 60 degrees apart. One of the major
aspects.
South Node: see Nodes.
Square: when 2 planets are 90 degrees apart. One of the major
aspects.
Trine: when two planets are 120 degrees away. One of the major
aspects.
