Recommended Reading List
I strongly recommend these titles, as appropriate to your interests
and level of astrological understanding. I do not claim it will be
easy to find some of them - particularly the scarcer ones toward the
bottom - but I do claim that all are worth seeking, if they are
suitable to you.

Originally published in 1647, this work covers the basics,
interpretation of natal charts, horary, direction, and some other
areas. It was one of the first astrological textbooks that was
written in English, rather than being translated from Latin, Arabic,
Greek, Sanscrit, etc. Mr. Lilly doth write in a manner most charming,
if reading of Mr. Shakespeare maketh you not dizzy! The most recent
editions are hard to find, and are printed in three volumes instead of
one.
There is a heavily edited single-volume revision, variously known as Lilly's Astrology or An Introduction to Astrology by Zadkiel, but I cannot recommend it as highly. Zadkiel apparently had a personal agenda that was heavily weighted in favor of horary, and much of the rest of Lilly's work is missing in Zadkiel's revision. If Lilly appeals to you, read the real Lilly! |
